Is It Legal to Play Natural8 in Thailand?
No. Thailand's Gambling Act B.E. 2478 (1935) prohibits gambling in principle, and card games such as poker may only be played with a permit from the Ministry of Interior. Thailand issues no online poker licences, so playing poker for real money on an offshore site is unlicensed gambling.

How Thailand's Gambling Act is structured
Thailand still relies on the 1935 Gambling Act (พระราชบัญญัติการพนัน พุทธศักราช 2478) as its core gambling law. It sorts gambling activities into two schedules:
| Category | What it covers | Can it be done legally? |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule A | Less common forms of gambling | Prohibited in principle |
| Schedule B | Mahjong, dominoes, card games such as poker and rummy, lotteries, raffles, bingo, etc. | Requires a prior permit from the Ministry of Interior and must follow the permit's conditions |
| Not on either schedule | e.g. casinos | Not listed, so prohibited |
Legal gambling in Thailand today is mainly the government lottery, horse racing at designated venues, approved sports betting and charity events, all subject to approval. There is no permit route for online poker at all, and Natural8 holds a licence from Anjouan (Comoros), not a Thai permit. So playing Natural8 for real money in Thailand is taking part in unlicensed gambling.
What we were able to check: the above is based on a legal overview published by the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) and analysis by the law firm Tilleke & Gibbins. We could not obtain the official full text of the Gambling Act's current provisions and penalties, so we don't list specific penalty figures here. Consult a lawyer qualified in Thailand; this page is not legal advice.
The reform under discussion
In early 2025 the Thai government held a public consultation (until 14 February 2025) on a draft amendment to the Gambling Act. According to Tilleke & Gibbins, the key points of the draft include:
- A first definition of “online gambling”: gambling via a computer or electronic system, over the internet or by remote communication;
- Organising or taking part in any online gambling without a licence from the competent authority would be prohibited — leaving the door open to licensing in future, but also meaning unlicensed platforms would still be illegal;
- Much heavier penalties: 7–12 years' imprisonment for organisers and 1–3 years' imprisonment for those taking part in unlicensed online gambling.
The draft may still change during the legislative process. As of our latest check, we could not confirm that it has come into force. A separate bill on casino resorts is also under discussion, but it has no direct bearing on online poker.
Natural8's operations in Thailand
- Thai-language site. Thai (ภาษาไทย) is one of only four languages Natural8 offers.
- Twitch livestreams. The official Thailand channel is natural8_thailand, with on-stream promotions such as “a giveaway unlocked for every knockout”.
- Ambassador Tent. Kannapong Thanarattrakul, 2nd on Thailand's all-time money list, with about US$4.16 million in live tournament earnings — see the ambassadors page.
Don't use a VPN or give a false country. Natural8 does not publish a list of restricted countries; its terms (section 2.11) say you can't open an account if your country of residence isn't in the sign-up list, and the same applies while travelling. Disguising your location breaks the terms, and the KYC checks before withdrawal verify your ID and proof of address, which can lead to account closure and frozen funds.
Vietnam's rules are on the Vietnam page, a comparison across regions is on regions, and support options are on the responsible gaming page.
