Key provisions of the Gambling Control Act 2022

In 2022 Singapore replaced the old Betting Act, Common Gaming Houses Act and Remote Gambling Act with the Gambling Control Act 2022. We checked the provisions on Singapore Statutes Online (SSO) on 2026-10-30:

ProvisionContent (our summary)
Section 11“Remote gambling” means gambling by means of remote communication (including the internet), even if only part of it takes place online.
Section 18(1)No one may conduct betting, gaming or a lottery without a licence or class licence.
Section 20(1)An individual commits an offence by gambling using a gambling service provided by another person in contravention of section 18(1), where the individual knows or ought reasonably to know this.
Section 20(3)Penalty: a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to 6 months, or both.
Section 20(4)It is an arrestable offence.

The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) explains on its website that providing unlicensed remote gambling services to people in Singapore is illegal whether the servers are in Singapore or abroad; that taking part in unlicensed remote gambling in Singapore is also an offence; and that Singapore Pools is the only operator licensed by the GRA to provide remote gambling services.

Natural8 is not licensed in Singapore. Natural8 is operated by Run Good N.V. under a licence from Anjouan (Comoros), not a GRA licence. For players in Singapore, it is exactly the kind of unlicensed service section 20 refers to.

Enforcement

According to the GRA, since 1 January 2025 the Singapore Police Force has taken over blocking unlawful remote gambling websites, related advertisements and payment transactions. That means sites can be blocked and related payments intercepted.

Natural8's own rules

  • Account opening depends on the drop-down list. Natural8 does not publish a list of restricted countries; its terms (section 2.11) say you can't open an account if your country of residence isn't in the sign-up list, and the same applies when you are travelling in Singapore.
  • A VPN breaks the terms. Disguising your location breaks section 2.11; the KYC checks before withdrawal verify your ID and proof of address, which can lead to account closure and frozen funds. More to the point, it can't change the fact that you are in Singapore.
  • Language. Natural8 has no Singapore-specific language; the official site comes only in English, Traditional Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese.

Our advice

If you are in Singapore, don't play Natural8 or any offshore poker platform for real money. If you just want to learn about the platform, read the Natural8 review; Malaysia's situation is on the Malaysia page, and a comparison across regions is on regions. If gambling is already affecting your life, the international support organisations Natural8 recommends are on the responsible gaming page. This page is not legal advice.

FAQ

Can I play Natural8 in Singapore (natural8 singapore)?
Not recommended. Natural8 is not an operator licensed by Singapore's Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), and the GRA states plainly that Singapore Pools is the only operator it has licensed to offer remote gambling. Taking part in unlicensed online gambling in Singapore is an offence.
How much can players be fined?
Section 20(3): a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to 6 months, or both. Section 20(4) makes it an arrestable offence.
Is it still an offence if I didn't know Natural8 was unlicensed?
One element of the offence under section 20(1) is that you “knew or ought reasonably to have known” the provider was unlicensed. After reading this page, it would be hard to claim you didn't know. Whether an offence was committed is for the courts to decide; consult a Singapore lawyer.
Some people on Reddit say playing from Singapore is fine?
Forum posts are not legal advice. Since 1 January 2025 the Singapore Police Force has taken over blocking unlawful remote gambling websites, advertisements and payment transactions, so enforcement should not be underestimated.
