Can You Play Natural8 (N8 Poker) in Mainland China?

No. Taking part in online gambling in mainland China is against the law: under Article 82 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law, in force since 1 January 2026, gambling with relatively large stakes is punishable by detention and a fine; assembling people to gamble, gambling as a profession, running a gambling house or organising participation in gambling abroad leads to criminal liability under Article 303 of the Criminal Law.

The relevant laws at a glance

We checked the following provisions on 2026-10-30. Mainland China has no legal licence of any kind for online poker or online gambling, and foreign licences held by offshore platforms have no effect on the mainland.

Paragraphs 2 and 3 of Article 303 were amended and added by Criminal Law Amendment (XI), which wrote cross-border gambling into the Criminal Law for the first time. “Can N8 Poker be used in China?” — three common misconceptions

(“N8扑克”, N8 Poker, is the common Chinese nickname for Natural8.)

Misconception 1: the platform is abroad and licensed, so it's fine

Natural8's operator, Run Good N.V., holds a licence from Anjouan (Comoros), which only means something where it was issued. If you are on the mainland, mainland law applies to you — and paragraph 3 of Article 303 of the Criminal Law is aimed specifically at gambling abroad.

Misconception 2: “wrong IP” just means switching IP

When the client says “wrong IP” or “not available in your region”, the platform is telling you that where you are is outside its service area. Natural8's terms (section 2.11) say you can't open an account if your country of residence isn't in the country list at sign-up, and the same applies while travelling. Using a VPN to disguise your location breaks the terms; the KYC checks before withdrawal verify your ID and proof of address, and if your location doesn't add up, your account may be closed and your balance frozen. This site provides no way around this.

Misconception 3: topping up through an agent is easier

So-called “agents” and “top-up services” usually collect and pay out gambling funds through other people's bank cards or third-party accounts. According to published reports, these collection-and-payment rings (commonly called “score-running”, 跑分) are a key target of the police in cracking down on cross-border gambling. The people handling the money may face criminal liability, and if anything goes wrong with your top-up, you have no recourse. More analysis is in the agents explainer.

About Natural8 itself

  • No Simplified Chinese site. Natural8's official site is only in English, Traditional Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese; /zh-CN redirects to the Traditional Chinese version.
  • No “domestic version”. The domestic, accelerated and cracked installers found online are not official releases.
  • No published list of restricted countries. Whether you can open an account depends only on the country drop-down at sign-up.

This site provides Natural8 information for Chinese-speaking players overseas, but it does not encourage or help readers in mainland China to take part in online gambling. For background on the platform, see the Natural8 review; laws in other regions are on regions.

If gambling is already affecting your life

Gambling addiction is something you can get help with. Stop topping up, tell your family, and let go of the urge to “win it back” — that's the first step. The responsible gaming page has a self-assessment checklist and international support organisations.

FAQ

Can Natural8 be used in mainland China?
No. Legally, mainland China prohibits online gambling in every form, and offshore platforms are no exception. Natural8 also has no Simplified Chinese site — its official site is only in English, Traditional Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese. This site provides no way of using it on the mainland.
Is it illegal even if I'm just playing for myself?
Gambling with relatively large stakes is a violation under Article 82 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law: detention of up to 5 days or a fine of up to 1,000 yuan; in serious cases, detention of 10 to 15 days plus a fine of 1,000 to 5,000 yuan. Gambling as a profession may constitute the crime of gambling under Article 303 of the Criminal Law.
What does it mean when the client says “wrong IP” or “not available in your region”?
It means Natural8 has determined that where you are is outside its service area. The right response is to stop using it, not to change your IP. Using a VPN to disguise your location breaks Natural8's terms (section 2.11); at the withdrawal review your account may be closed and your balance frozen, and it doesn't change the fact that you are on the mainland and subject to mainland law.
What happens if I top up for others or recruit people to sign up?
The risk is even greater. Article 303 of the Criminal Law punishes running a gambling house with up to 5 years' imprisonment, or 5 to 10 years in serious cases; organising Chinese citizens to take part in gambling abroad, where the amounts are huge or there are other serious circumstances, is punished the same way. Online “agents”, “top-up services” and “score-running” (moving gambling funds through other people's accounts) can all be caught by this.
Is the “N8 domestic version” or “accelerated version” people talk about real?
Natural8 has no “domestic version” of any kind. So-called domestic or accelerated installers are not official releases; they are usually account-stealing malware or scam platforms. Official installers come only from Natural8's own download servers.
